We met at work, as Assistant State’s Attorneys in Frederick County. I had been at the position for about 10 months when Matt interviewed for an opening. I heard from the interviewing attorneys that they may have hired “my husband,” and they described him as tall, well-mannered, and good-looking.  We didn’t date for a while, and tried to keep it secret even longer, but I eventually realized that the hiring committee was right!

After Matt left the State’s Attorney’s Office for private practice, he organized a surprise proposal at one of Brett’s attorneys meetings.  Only a few people were in on it, one of whom was the State’s Attorney. At the end of the meeting, he told the group of prosecutors that he was going to start a “5 questions” game in order to get to know each other better. The attorney whose turn it was would stand in front of the group and answer 5 questions about themselves from the audience, and I was “first up.” After a few questions from the group (who is your favorite band, what is your favorite holiday, etc.) Matt busted through the back door of the grand jury room and bent down on one knee with a question of his own! I was in total shock. He had asked my parents months before, and both sets of parents came up that night for a celebratory dinner at the Wine Kitchen.

My favorite part I’m sure will be seeing Matt standing at the end of the aisle waiting for me, and seeing all of our family and friends enjoying what we have worked so hard to plan!

It can be so overwhelming to plan an event of this magnitude, but just remember to chose what you love, hire good people, and enjoy the day!
