Real Couples | Alicia & Ian

Alicia and Ian are getting married tomorrow! I met with them a couple of months ago and, if I can be transparent, at that time they decided to go with another wedding planner. I was bummed but understood. Fast forward to about 3 months ago and my phone starts ringing with a phone call from Alicia. “Hmmm, this is weird.” Long story short, their planner decided to pack up shop and left them stranded! Her mistake was my gain because this couple is amazing. Alicia is so kind hearted and loving & Ian goes right along with everything; simply assuring Alicia along the way. It is so amazing to watch these two together and see how their partnership works.  Their wedding is going to be such to be an amazing day! The weather is forecasted to be perfect, their vendor team is amazing–I truly think it will be one of those weddings that I will just love to be a part of!

1) How did you two meet?
We met at a party hosted by one of Ian’s college roommates who happened to be a friend from my hometown.
2) How did he propose?
We took a trip to Europe in June 2015 to run a race in Svalbard (part of Norway that is in the Arctic Circle). After the race, we traveled to Germany for a few days and then took a 2-day trip to Paris where Ian proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

3) What do you think will be your favorite part of your wedding day?
Seeing each other during the first look, saying our vows, dancing our first dance. 🙂
4) Can you provide some planning advice to brides in the thick of it right now?
1. When ordering your dress, order a size up and prepare and plan for alterations from the beginning to allow yourself time to get the dress to the way it looked when you decided it was “the one”. The way it looks when you try it on is not the way it looks when you order it in your size.
2. Create a joint Gmail account for you and your partner and use this to email vendors, save your contracts, price quotes, conversations, etc.
3. Your wedding is a pretty special and unique event. If you really want something, don’t be afraid to splurge. There’s a lot of FOMO and it can be hard to discern what you really want from what you think would look really cool but try not to get hung up saying “it’s only one day, why spend all this money?”. It is one day but it’s one day for the books and that counts for something.
4. Hire a wedding coordinator!

5) What are you most looking forward to about married life?
Referring to one another as husband and wife, getting a pet (or 3) and planning new adventures!
