Sara Reynolds Events » A Maryland based events & wedding planner

Ok I have teased you for months about this wedding and now I am SO excited to finally share it. This wedding was literally a labor of love as there were so many parts and pieces to coordinate. The bride had a vision all along of creating a cozy vintage garden and I truly believe we did just that! We mixed lovely velvet linens with champagne drapery, greenery with hand painted signs, a vintage inspired seating chart, programs created with hand drawn pictures of the bride and groom and so much more!  I don’t think there was a single detail NOT thought of for this wedding. The bride wanted a greenery chandelier over the dance floor. The only way to do that was to construct an entire system to hang this chandelier from–friends, Event Pro is amazing. I gave them crude drawings and zero understanding of physics yet they delivered 10 fold. Actually, every single vendor for this wedding was amazing–surrounding yourself with good people allows for some beautiful results.

This wedding was in January and it was a COLD day. So cold. But Brett and Matt were total troopers taking pictures outside…in the snow. It was just enough of a dusting to perfectly compliment their winter wedding. I am going to let the photos speak for themselves because they will tell the story better than I ever could!

I am SO excited to get this wedding season started. My brides and grooms have such great taste not only in style but the overall atmosphere they are creating for their guests. They say your vibe attracts your tribe and I think I can say the same for clients! I am so fortunate to have super chill brides this year & one of them is definitely my girl Becca. I don’t think I have seen one feather ruffled on this girl since we started working together. All she cares about is marrying Josh and you know what, she gets it! Remember, this day is so much bigger than the details–plan a marriage more beautiful than your wedding day! <3

P I N I T

How did you two meet?
Tinder (Ahh – maybe we should make something up!) Our first date was brunch at Citrus in Virginia Beach on Memorial Day weekend 2014. Both of us had just recently moved there for work and I didn’t really know anyone yet. After a super long brunch, we went and spent the rest of the day at the beach hanging out. It was a totally different and fun first date – we were inseparable from that moment on.
How did he propose?
Josh deployed 6 months after I moved to San Diego and was supposed to be home in May. A few weeks before he was scheduled to come home, he was told that he would be staying for the remainder of the deployment and wouldn’t be home until August. Obviously, I was kind of bummed about it! When we found out he’d be in Hawaii for the majority of the summer, we booked a flight for me to come out over 4th of July weekend. Little did I know, Josh had purchased the ring several months earlier in San Diego and was just waiting to come home to pick it up! My friend, Tyler, was going to Hawaii at the same time to visit her husband so she went and picked up the ring and brought it out to him. I had no idea she had it in her purse during the entire flight! I was hoping it would happen but really wasn’t sure and once it had been a few days, I assumed that it wouldn’t be happening. He ended up proposing at the top of the mountain when we were on a beautiful hike on July 3rd. The views were incredible!
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding day?
Seeing Josh for the first time! I can’t wait to have a moment together before the ceremony and reception where it is just the two of us. I just can’t wait to marry him!
What is one piece of advice you would provide to brides-to-be?
Number your RSVP cards! And always remember it’s just one big party, no need to get too stressed over the little things. I think, overall, I’ve been a pretty low stress bride and part of that is because I refused to let it take over every waking day. Just as I keep my work life separate from my home life, I designated certain times that would be spent on wedding planning. I have to admit though, Etsy has sucked me in a few too many times…
What is going to be your favorite aspect of married life?
Getting to create a beautiful life with my favorite person in the world. Josh just keeps me laughing all day long

For those of you who followed along or reached out since my last infertility post, thank you. You have no idea how much your kind words, “me too”s, prayers, love and support mean to me. In some ways I feel like I was given this journey for a reason; I have turned into my own form of Mama Bear to many woman going through this awful ride too. It is immensely healing to talk to other woman with the same hopeless feeling. For those of you outside this circle you might think that is depressing but there is so much community around the empty womb.

I debated sharing “this part” of our journey. I have wrestled with it for days but I eventually came to the conclusion that it felt right to share. After our diagnosis of unexplained infertility we did LOTS of soul searching. Are we testing God’s will by moving forward with fertility treatments was the question I kept repeating over and over. We took a break from doctors appointments for 6 months and changed our insurance to the only plan that partially covered fertility treatments.

On Monday I had my first IUI procedure. The last three days have been long, so, so long. I have kept busy with meetings and coffee dates but always in the back of my mind I am thinking “is the fertilized egg implanting yet?” “Has the egg even been fertilized yet?” “What if this fails?” “How will I ever pick myself up after that?” I will shamelessly admit I have cried, at some point, every day since the procedure (and I will probably continue that trend). This procedure has a 12.4% success rate for us. 12.4%, do you know how small that is? How many drugs, blood draws, ultrasounds, and sleepless nights I have had? All for 12.4%. But in that tiny number is a glimmer of hope. I want to be included in that very small number of success stories.

I will have a pretty awesome pregnancy announcement if this works but if you don’t see it, please be nice to my feelings and don’t ask. So, I just have a simple ask, if you are the praying type just ask God to have his will done. That is a huge shift I am trying to have in all this chaos. Thy will be done. His plans are so much bigger than mine.

Artsy Couture approached me about assisting them with a styled shoot last April. They are an amazing professional photo lab–go check them out! Laura, from Artsy, knew they wanted a light and airy garden feel with beautiful blushes and a spring flair. As with any shoot there were some hiccups–traffic delays, sick vendors who couldn’t make it, wind, losing sunlight…but this was an all-star team and we made it happen.

I truly loved this shoot. That floral runner was enough to fulfill my floral dreams for a year. Maribel from Eight Tree Street is so talented and surpassed every expectation I had; from the tiny moscow mule cups, the hanging lanterns, down to the floating escort card display-I loved every detail we threw into this shoot. The Perfect Palette loved it too and published this shoot back in November.

The Excelsior is a hidden gem. I was searching high and low for a venue that was classy and elegant but not stuffy. Slightly historical but not ornate. Various  hidden areas for pictures but yet had a great flow to the day. I honestly can’t tell you exactly how I found The Excelsior because I don’t remember but it was an absolute perfect match for my October bride. I remember traveling to Lancaster as a kid for family vacations and let me tell you-Lancaster is not all Amish country. Their downtown area (where the Excelsior is) is bustling with cool shops, restaurants, and cafes. I definitely got an Asheville, NC vibe when I was walking around down there.

I love The Excelsior so much that I want to share it with you! I asked the owner, Kelly and John, to share some insight about their venue:

What sets your venue apart from others?
What differentiates Excelsior from other venues is it’s one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Unlike anything you may have seen, this intriguing property combines classic architectural features blended with modern design throughout six different connecting spaces. Refreshing outdoor green areas and fascinating Brewer’s catacombs enhance the overall experience to create a multifaceted venue.
Why should I get married at the Excelsior?
There are basically 3 reasons “WHY Excelsior”
1. If you are looking for a Sophisticated, Eclectic and Extraordinary place for a Ceremony and Reception – Excelsior is ALL that.

2. If you are looking for a venue that offers your guests a myriad of amenities and activities that are ALL within WALKING distance to your venue – Excelsior is located right in the heart of Downtown Lancaster, PA. Within 7 blocks of Excelsior, there are so many Hotels, B&Bs Restaurants, Bars, Clubs, Boutiques, Galleries, Museums, Parks a Farmers Market, Amtrak, Uber, Parking Garages, etc.

3. If you want one wedding venue ALL to yourself with no other events taking place simultaneously – Excelsior is all yours to host a private event that gloriously unfolds from the morning into the evening.

What is your favorite part of your venue?

My favorite part of Excelsior is the entire venue vibe – when I get to experience the total journey of each event – from the very first meeting all the way to the day-of.  It is a collaborative, creative and transforming process that involves the couple, their friends and families, the caterer, their wedding planner and wedding vendors.  I am happy to say that my “event appreciation” continues to grow as I gain knowledge from all the client/couples I get to work with. I am fascinated to watch every event become a unique interpretation of the Bride & Groom though their love and gratitude for one another throughout their wedding event planning process.

What is one piece of advice you would give to bride and grooms as they are planning their weddings?
Hire a professionally certified, experienced Wedding Planner who will help to guide you every step of the way. Or at the very least hire a Day-of Wedding Coordinator. With a Planner, you will be able to feel confident throughout your wedding planning process and relax to enjoy the week before your wedding day. On the Day-of you will be completely stress-free of duties during all the set-ups and be able to fully enjoy yourselves and your guests on the most important day of all – your wedding day.
